World AIDS Day took place on the 1st December and I was delighted to join my parliamentary colleagues Brian Whittle MSP and Miles Briggs MSP to support HIV Scotland on this very important day.
We have come a long way since the hard-hitting AIDS campaigns of the 1980's and now people know far more about the disease, it is more manageable and the way that we raise awareness of HIV/AIDS has changed completely. One thing that hasn't changed though, is the stigma that many people with HIV/AIDS face on a daily basis.
I was able to speak in a members business debate in the Scottish Parliament on World AIDS Day, and I acknowledged the fact that one statistic from the National AIDS Trust showed that 2 out of 5 people in Britain believe that their manager should tell them if a colleague is living with HIV.
This is just one example that prejudice still exists on this issue.
