Donald Cameron MSP (Highlands and Islands) is looking for an enthusiastic and highly organised individual to join his team as a Caseworker. This is a part-time position based in the Oban regional Office, with occasional requirement to travel within the Highlands and Islands region, as well as Edinburgh and other locations as necessary.

Hours: 12 hours per week – based on 37 hours FTE (working pattern to be agreed)

Salary: £20,725 per annum (pro rata)

Job purpose

To support Donald Cameron in providing effective support in dealing with constituency casework effectively, as well as ensuring the delivery of a professional service to constituents.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist in the running of the regional office, providing advice and support to constituents and stakeholders
  • Progressing and managing constituent casework ensuring all enquiries are answered within an agreed timescale
  • Maintaining an in-depth understanding of the region
  • Undertaking research and liaising with external agencies to resolve matters on behalf of constituents
  • Ensure all records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with data protection
  • Supporting organisation of MSP appointments, surgeries and other meetings as necessary
  • Assisting with various office duties as directed

Skills and Attributes Required

  • Excellent communication and writing skills, coupled with good telephone manner
  • Strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise workload
  • Quick and efficient work style, ability to work to deadlines with attention to detail
  • A strong work ethic, enthusiastic and reliable
  • Flexible and adaptable in approach, demonstrating initiative
  • Ability to work as a team and confidence to work on your own
  • Experience of dealing with sensitive and confidential information
  • Knowledge of important local and regional issues
  • Excellent IT skills, with demonstrable working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Full clean driving licence would be desirable, but not essential
