Statement on closure of Virgin Money Stores

Virgin Money

Virgin Money have announced that they are to close three branches in the Highlands at Oban, Portree and Wick.

Highlands and Islands Regional MSP Donald Cameron said: “This is very disappointing news coming on the back of other bank closures across the Highlands and Islands.

“This announcement means that customers will have to travel considerable distances if they wish to continue to enjoy the advantages of personal banking with Virgin Money.

“For instance, in the case of Oban, accounts are being transitioned to Lochgilphead which is at least an hour’s drive away, making it an impractical alternative for most customers wishing to transact business in person.

“We really do need to see financial institutions like Virgin Money taking greater account of the impact their decisions make. We cannot afford to keep losing local facilities.”
