Commenting on the announcement by the UK Government that it is committing £50 million of funding to Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles, Highlands and Islands Regional MSP Donald Cameron said:

“I am delighted that the Prime Minister is visiting Orkney today to underline his commitment to the Islands Growth Deal.

“The deal has the potential to be a game-changer for the islands where we badly need investment to sustain the local economy and reverse the worrying trend towards depopulation.

“The unprecedented scale of the deal is an emphatic demonstration of how beneficial it can be when the both the UK and Scottish Government's work together to deliver on behalf of our communities.

"It builds on the extraordinary support being provided by H.M. Treasury in protecting nearly one million jobs in Scotland through furloughing and the self-employment support scheme.
